I have a cheque to deposit into my RBS account. Can I do this anywhere other than an branch of RBS?

Yes you can but you will almost certainly find that they will levy a charge for doing this, probably at least ?5.
If you have access to online banking then you could pay the chq into your Santander account, wait for it to clear, then send the money over to your RBS account. It may take a week to clear but the transfer would be done on the same day as both banks are part of the 'faster payments' scheme for BACS transfers.
