thanks for this G-Man. I have an appointment with a financial advisor on Friday - to talk about the best way forward. Looks like I either leave it where it is - long-term and weather the storm or do as you suggest and either sell the investment ISA and use the funds to buy cash ISA or to transfer the money to a different fund. Will be better placed to decide when Ive had advice.

Hi,

You can't transfer from an investment ISA to a cash ISA though you can do the reverse, so you'd have to sell your investment ISA and take the proceeds and open a new cash ISA or add to your existing cash ISA if you have already opened one this year and have not saved the maximum ?5340 in it as yet.

Alternatively, you could leave your money where it is or transfer it to different funds / shares within your investment ISA.

Can I ask who your investment ISA is with?

Well, good luck with your meeting.

A couple of places to look though is hargreaves lansdown (h-l.co.uk) and interactive investor inc (iii.co.uk) which are low cost fund supermarkets which have a huge range of funds you can freely swap between. Neither is anchored to a particular range of funds (e.g. Aviva, L&G, Halifax etc.) and both give discounts on the initial charges for most funds. h-l even rebate some of the annual management charges on several funds!

If you are the kind of person to get upset over a "nominal" loss of ?800 on a long term investment (which you should really have known will fluctuate short term) them you probably should not be investing like this. Maybe you were given bad advice in the past or someone oversold this to you. There may be cause for complaint / compensation. Raise the issue with the company/person that sold it to you and be FIRM, you might stand a chance of mitigating the loss (i.e. they will make some / al of it up ) if they think you might take it through the complaints procedure. Next time you invest be absolutely sure you are getting the right thing for you and your temperament, nobody needs to worry !
