On reading the Fred Olsen small print it suggested we check with our insurers that transfers from the ship to a hospital on land were covered. We assumed it was, because our health cover was for £5 m. I asked our insurers the question "If I am taken ill on board ship and need a helicopter to take me to a hospital will i be covered? the answer was "NO". This cover is extra. Anyone else aware of this?
Hi p_turn, and welcome to the forum.
I'm not into cruise holidays like yourself and many others, but didn't know this. I'm sure that info will be much appreciated by all the cruise lovers on the forum. Thank you for the warning! :-)
I was not aware of that either and I think it's terrible. Many thanks for the warning p_turn. It's always the same with insurance, they give you a long impressive looking list of 'what's covered' and a few bits of 'what's not covered' but who can think of every last remotely possible eventuality that could ever happen (apart from the insurers of course who know full well what they're doing and make sure they aren't going to have to pay out for anymore than absolutely necessary).
Gosh I'm glad I didn't know last year when I went on a cruise. I would have been mortified if I had had an accident and wasn't covered properly after taking out insurance just to cover that one holiday. Thank you I shall certainly take that into consideration if I book another cruise.
