I have a Splash Plastic MAESTRO card Issue 1 that expires in November. How do I renew with a card usable on ALL MAESTRO web sites

Why do about 50% of Internet sites displaying the "MAESTRO" logo refuse to accept my MAESTRO card for payment? Is it because the card number is 18 digits long? AMAZON used to accept it but as from April 2011 do not, indicating "Invalid Card Number". This is an embarrassing situation in which I have to register with a site disclosing much personal information only to find that at the end of the process the card is unacceptable.
