Hi,can anybody help. I had a vanqis credit card to the limit of £750,i was paying it of bit by bit,but in the end i paid it off.Know they keep sending me a statment for £1.00 every month.I phoned twice and on second phone call they cancelled my card because i no longer want it.and had a letter to say they cancelled it.But now i am getting a statement for a £1.00 again.Phoned again and they said they will cancel it because last time it was not done properly and they said they would send out another letter.what can i do if they keep it open and keep sending me a statement when i no longer want.I also sent a recorded delivery to say i want it cancelled.

I am not sure what to suggest here, if you have closed the account and you have had confirmation that it has been closed then have you disputed the charges with them? surely if your account wasn't closed properly then that is their error so they shouldn't be charging you? I presume you have records of all of the communications you have had with them eg. letters and emails?

Hi bevmcomp, and welcome to the forum.

I suspect that you were previously being charged the £1.00 because you tried to cancel your card by phone rather than by letter. The Vanquis website states that cancellation of a card must be in writing. Did the letter that Vanquis sent you after the second phone call ask you to confirm your cancellation in writing? If so, then this could very well be why they charged you again and why they told you that 'last time it wasn't done properly'.

As you have now made a written request to cancel and sent it by recorded delivery, you have done it correctly, so they should cancel your card and no longer send you any more statements for a £1.00. If you receive any more charges after they have received your letter, call them and tell them that you have now cancelled correctly, that you have the proof of that in your recorded delivery copy slip.

Thanks, bev, that wasn't clear from your initial description.

Since you've informed them in writing (presumably twice now!) that you want to cancel, and also seem to have received a letter from Vanquis previously confirming the cancellation, then you could write again to complain about the continuing charges.

Here's the details of how to complain to Vanquis...

If you have a complaint about a service provided by Vanquis, please write to Vanquis Visa Card, Customer Service, P.O. Box 399, CHATHAM ME4 4WQ or telephone us on 0871 770 5555. Lines are open between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 5.30 pm on Saturday. Calls to this number will be charged at 7p per minute from a BT landline. Calls from mobiles and other networks may vary. Your complaint will be dealt with in accordance with our complaints procedure. Should you have a complaint that we are unable to resolve to your satisfaction you may refer it to the Financial Ombudsman at www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk, by letter to the Financial Services Ombudsman at South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall, London E14 9SR or by telephone on 0845 080 1800
