I have started checking my purse before I leave supermarket and buying a couple of stamps from the saving stamps machine with whatever loose change I have.It can amount to a full shop in December.
Just as easy to buy a couple every time you are in, they soon mount up.
Hi instinct, good idea, although I still seem to have a load left from last year.
Excellent idea, instinct, although I must say I find references to Christmas in June pretty depressing!
I don't mean to cause unseasonal concern, it's just me trying to spread the load in whatever way i can so I tend to think about starting saving a little ahead of the game!
Doesn't it work out cheaper than having to put £ 49 or multiples of same, on your credit card if the spending was outwith your usual that you could pay back immidiately?
Well, ok, but as a way of saving, it means you are giving them your money for no interest. Why not put the loose in a jar at home, and convert to cash once a month, then put it in a savings account - I just don't like big companies getting money from ppl interest free.
Hi instinct I put money on the xmas card at Asda each month and when you get £144 they give you £6 free (I usually save for six months) and have two cards and you can use it beginning of December and for anytime after which is rather nice not to have to pay for your shopping just after Christmas. I only buy the bargains then and treats after which I spread my shopping out to which Supermarket has the best buys. Also I then do the price check and more often than not there is a nice sized voucher to spend next time you shop. - Sabre
I guess there are two schools of thought on this one and some people just don't like giving money to rich supermarkets up front in this manner. But then again, many people love the discipline of making future arrangements for their Christmas food spending and that is a good thing, particularly if the supermarket adds a bonus to the card which I believe many do.
AS for me, as I currently live on my own, I have no idea where my Christmas will be spent this year so I won't be planning ahead. But I am open to invitations!
You have it well sussed Sabre; tesco will add £1 stamp value for every £49 you save, and you can use the stamps you have accrued anytime of year but you only get the extra stamp in December.
Hi instinct, think I got the wrong end of the stick here, I answered earlier thinking you meant postage stamps! Duh! :-)
LOL, Fruits, had you been on the gin when you answered? ;-)
It looks good at Asda then instinct when you get £6 extra for each card of £144 at the beginning of December. It all helps though as I will get £12 extra.
I've got my three cards full this year so will get £450 on them an extra £18. £50 worth of goodies for the R.S.P.C.A.
to give the animals some nice treats for Christmas and
the rest will pay for Christmas shopping and then shopping for the following weeks after Christmas until I've spent
it all on grocery etc. Usually it's a time for paying bills etc. so will be of great help
started saving the stamps in february, cos i save for both my son and daughter for xmas..They love food shopping like myself..Great idea stamps, cos when your children get older you run out of ideas for xmas.
We use the Tesco saving stamps too - we start buying about 2 stamps a week from end of Dec onwards, and then by November we have 2 cards full to use in December. For us it really helps so that we don't have a big outlay in December. Just been looking at the Tesco Christmas Savings Club, and it sounds like you can do a similar thing with that, but with a better bonus return.
Morrisons gives you £3 free when you save £97, so you get £100 to spend. But I find Morrisons more expensive for us anyway. Didn't know about the ASDA one, but tend not to shop there if I can help it! But it sounds like a good deal.
If your anywhere near Asda pop in I think you will be surprised at some of their deals now ...compared to TESCO and SAINSBURYS really good
If you get the stamps they have good deals at christmas ..I found Tesco terrible last year....wrong prices on items etc.
Congratulations to rosetta for being the first person this year to mention the C word! ;-)
Not a good thing in March, Jazz!
Well Feline I'll be the second one to use the C word (in the right way of course). I have now got £144 on my first card at Asda which which turn into £150 beginning of December. I have also done what Parchy suggested and saved £10 a week in a current account although I think he put it in a jar. I never use so have got another £120 in there towards Christmas.
Scary, Sabre!! Can't even begin to think of it yet!!
Saves you having to think too much later on Jazzj. I shan't be doing anything else until later.
Can see your point, but \i don't think about Christmas until December !
I'm with you on that, Jazz.
The Christmas catalogues used to start landing on the mat about September, now they seem to come any time from the end of July onwards. Straight into the recycling bin!
Yep, and mine feline!
Blimey Sabre!!! That's a bit too organised for the beginning of March!! We joined the Tesco Christmas Club and have been 'topping-up' our vouchers each week, so nicely on track there.
Rosetta - our ASDA is horrible!! Very cramped aisles, stuff in the wrong place, no staff to help out, or the ones that are there just don't have a clue! Hence the reason we don't do our main shop there, but we do pop in every now and then to have a look at the offers, as as you say, they can be quite good.
I've never eally thought about doing this as it means I'd be tied to a particular supermarket for my shopping, but now I've looked at whats around I can actually make more moeny on some of them than on a savoings account - is there anything to stop me buying a card full on the last day and then spending them the following month for almost instant profit...........?
No, you just have to be aware that they may run out of stamps (like our local Tesco has done) :( So we will have to trek to the other 2 Tescos to try and complete our other card. We haven't lost any money, but we just wont get the bonus if its not full.
Ooh never thought about them running out - our next nearest store is a good twenty miles away and is only a metro jobby..thanks yummymummy
The three cards I have will be updated and have the extra £6 on each by next week (forgot what date). Not sure what the cut off point is but at Asda I suppose if you get in before the time is up you can pay £144 and a few day's later get the full £150. It would be better to ask at the customer services or you might have to wait another year for it. I usually start at the beginning of January and pay £50 a month for 6/9 month's depending on funds. I use it for bargains too not just for Christmas so get more for my money that way. I'm not sure about the other Supermarkets.
Leave it til december then buy enough to fill the card ........£3 off your shopping ..then buy and fill in another card £3 off your shopping ...save in Building society the rest of the time..
WE ALWAYS BUY STAMPS -IT CAN BE A BIG LIFE SAVER IN DIFFICULT TIMES SO MY ADVICE IS GO GET EM BABE MICK10
Have never thoguht about buying and saving the stamps - it makes perfect sense though. I do save each month for Christmas pressies and buying a stamp or two each week would soon mount up as well. Think i'll have a look at doing so when i next go food shopping!
Well I can't buying now because things may change in the future. Buying them now will make some one to buy what he or she do not really want
Good idea which supermarkets do it?
