Haven't noticed prices coming down in either of my two local supermarkets, jajajanie, mostly they seem to be going up! The special offers, though, are pretty good. I live in a small town though, so perhaps the prices are more competitive in much larger towns, or in cities, where there's serious competition?

Thanks, jajajanie! :-)

There are plenty of offers in morrisons on a regular day to day basis.Fruit was on offer for 30p a bag and quite a selection.Itry and stock up on items while on offer, therefore saving money,so yes some supermarkets have brought prices down.

I wouldn't say prices have gone down, but there are so many good offers on every day items now - not sure if I am actually spending less though.

I can't really say I've noticed this, my shopping bill doesn't seem to get any smaller!

I agree with some others here - I'm noticing a lot of offers at the moment, but then, they all seem to be on the products that were overpriced to start with.

I moved house from a city to a town two weeks ago, though, and am now shopping at Tesco rather than Asda, so I guess I've not got that comparison.

All I noticed are that pizzas that don't look that great are reduced from £3 to £1.50 (when they really don't look worth more than £1.50 to start with), and various other such offers. I have had to increase my budget by £40 for next month, though, finally. I've been putting it off for a long while, but moving to Tesco has made it necessary.

Hope your house move went well. Also hope your new shopping bill won't affect your carefully planned budget too much - I know you had it all figured out brilliantly. How are we all supposed to get our figures right when the numbers keep changing????

Yes I must concur its the most stressful experience I have ever been through done it a few times and really would rather not do it again until of course I win the Lottery and move to my Farm in Slovakia or mountaintop villa in Tatra or Lake Garda - hmmmm difficult choice but with a few million maybe Ill just have all three or would that be greedy?

hmmmm

Hope CPJ didnt have too much stress on the move day!

Plenty of gin at the ready ... or Earl Grey....

Asda prices have really come down when I was in on Monday a litre of Clementine fresh orange juice for 50p - loss leaders for sure and lots more besides looks like the Asda Tesco war is stepping up after Tesco setup their price beating section on the website.

You get double the difference - there was a great deal recently where you bought a certain wine for £4 in Asda its £10 in Tesco - apply on the Tesco website and you get double the difference which was £12 so basically you get a free bottle of wine and £8 free - surely madness.

Lots of folks are now scouring the deals to get that double money back!

Such a shame that people stoop to doing this and spoiling it for others! But having now read that article, Omen, the spokesperson for Asda does have a point!

Yes true but the big stores are raking in the profits its a drop in the ocean to them!

I will never understand the need to make greater and greater profits without actually giving the customer a break - it seems the banks et al dont seem happy unless they make a greater profit than the year before but there must be some limit on how long this can last!

I agree, Omen, most of us are just buying less and less, where will it all end?!

by fruitcake, 1 year ago

I'm sure Omen will say it will end with the Mega Zombie Apocolypse fruits!

Omen, should you really be disclosing details of your weapon in a public forum?

Generally my bills don't seem to have gone down, although some good offers, but most essentials eg. washing powder/liquid has gone up a lot in last year.

by lakes, 1 year ago

I agree, lakes. I went into Tesco for my usual Tesco brand washing liquid, and found that it's now been repackaged in a different shaped bottle, but the price was the same, so I bought it. Got home, and discovered that the new shape bottle contains 630ml while the old bottle contained 700ml!! So you now get 70ml less for the same price! I felt conned!

by fruitcake, 1 year ago

Nasty very nasty!

I went for a diddle today and the prices arent as cheap as they used to be.

Wont be buying much fresh veg from lidl anymore bought some last week and it went rotten in less than 3 days!

Beware the big name washing powders in their newly redesigned boxes (square/oblong shape rather than tall box). Price the same BUT less weight of powder in them!!! *&^&*()^£% to the thieving manufacturers!

by wendiew, 1 year ago

Too right, wendiew, I think we'll all have to watch out for this sneaky dodge! I'm certainly watching out for it since my Tesco washing liquid experience. I'd rather they just openly put the price up, instead of this underhand way of doing it!

by fruitcake, 1 year ago

Hi there Jajajanie!

Well if this is so, I, for one, have certainly not seen it. If there is some perception this is happening, then that is all it is, perception. I think supermarkets are very devious at making the customer perceive cheapness when it is not there. I shop for myself and my favourite cereal was up 14% this week from when I last bought it.

But there were claims last week of a drop in inflation and it was put down to falling food prices. To me that sounds like a myth but I will certainly keep my eye out now.

Then only other explanation is that food sales are so poor with the current economic climate that supermarkets are marking stuff down to move it rather than bin it. If that is so, I, for one, am grateful.

No sign of this in any of the shops I've been in. Prices still on the up for the most part, fuel went up another penny yesterday (just in time for the Easter tourists) ... the big rip off is still alive and well.
