What's your specific question, as long as you have a receipt there should be no problem in collecting it, if no receipt then you may have a problem unless you can prove it through a bank statment?
Hope you paid by credit card they should be able to sort you out!
In this climate and society I doubt if it lay there for more than half a microsecond before the till girl or some sneaky shopper nabbed it!
Nope paid in cash. Can I demand to see CCTV?
I never pay cash for anything now except the odd time i take the bus when i cant cycle - like now lol
The lesson from your tale - *** always use a credit card *** - besides the bonus of cashback you are covered for all your purchases until you get them home i believe as well as all the extra cover it affords you against retailers ripping you off , going bust etc.
Besides, having cash makes theft a bigger issue for you and even carrying it - there are gangs in London etc that watch shoppers in stores and banks when taking out cash to pay for things then tip off by mobile their colleagues round the corner and you are an immediate target - my advice is never carry cash when shopping especially in a major city such as Edinburgh, Glasgow , Birmingham, London, Manchester.
I havent met anyone that uses cash these days - you are a very rare animal Kelly.
I would go back to the shop first and ask if anyone handed it in.
Getting CCTV is unlikely as it costs time and money to do that - you would probably have to get a lawyer involved or the police in order to get to see anything regarding CCTV. CCTV is used by law enforcement - the public is unlikely to get access unless a criminal offence has been involved.
How much was it worth?
It all depends on the store as well if its a local shop you may have luck if its a high street store very little.
What happened to your receipt?
Kelly30, not sure of the exact concern here? Did you return to Topshop and ask this very question? One would have thought that a responsible retailer like this would have put the obviously purchased item to one side awaiting collection. IF the shop deny having the bag and contents in their possession, then you will need a receipt and of course evidence that you left without it, such as CCTV if applicable. The other option was that someone else simply took it. A tough call I agree but in the end, very much accidental loss.
I think it would be worth your while to contact the shop to check if the staff have retrieved it and are keeping it in case you return for it. If they have no knowledge of what happened to it, you could contact the police, as this would suggest that someone helped themselves to it, which would be theft. If the shop has CCTV with a view of the till point, the police may be willing to check it for you, but I suspect they won't deem it a serious enough crime, although I do appreciate that it is serious to you, kelly.
I think the simple answer is that if you had already paid for the clothes and just forgot to take the items with you , you are relying on the goodwill of the staff in the shop to keep the items for you, knowing that you just forgot to take them with you. If you went back to the shop and they had no recollection, then unfortunately the shop is not responsible and you have to accept that you have lost them!
You're right, donk, that the shop's not responsible, but most shops will retrieve goods that are accidentally left behind by customers and keep them for a reasonable length of time to see if the customer contacts the store.
