Can I get insurance purely for an iPad?

by , 1 year agoOpen Question

I was assessing my current situation and as a lodger I do not know if I would be covered by the homeowners insurance if I were to lose my iPad. It isn't like a mobile phone in that the shop will offer insurance, unlike a mobile phone. So I'm wondering if there are any insurance policies we may know about that cover such items as iPods, iPads or laptops whilst out and about? Please let me know as a search on google comes back with many dodgy looking sites...

The homeowner's insurance policy is very unlikely to cover your possessions. Ideally, you should have your own insurance policy. I'm not aware of any that are specially designed for lodgers (like those available for students) so it would make sense for you to take out contents insurance, enough to cover your own possessions. You can tailor the cover to include 'away from home cover' to cover the possessions that you take out and about with you. This blog article might be helpful...

You could try www.ipadinsurance.co.uk. It is offering insurance for £3.99 per month with 3 months free. This would cover you for loss/theft/damage and is much like mobile phone insurance. It all looks pretty legit.

The website seems to have been taken down...not too legit after all?

I recently insured my iPhone by adding a little extra to our home insurance. It would be worth checking as it was much cheaper than using my mobile phone provider.

As a lodger I have no home insurance, and had not thought of trying to add it to my mobile insurance
