I want to get myself a games console before Christmas - the big question is which one? Xbox 360 or PS3?

I know both have got new motion technology to rival the wii but which is better overall?

PS3 all the way.

Why's that then Drester?

Personally I just think it's better. You pay a little more but you also get a blu-ray player for your money too.

Personally, owning all three consoles (PS3, Wii, and XBox), I'd pick the XBox 360 any day.

I love the wide selection of games on the XBox, catering to a larger variety of people than the PS3 (which I feel has a very distinct target audience), I find it more functional, I prefer its features, and my OH loves the achievement system too (though that's not for me!).

The Wii, I find, is a 'fun', light console that's great for parties and occasional social gaming, but nothing special to play alone. The PS3 is a more heavy console, with a distinct target audience and limited functionality, and the XBox is a good all-rounder without sacrificing to be so.

Our PS3 comes out occasionally for those exclusive games, and is a much-loved Blu-Ray player, but I prefer the exclusive games on XBox, and prefer the XBox for games available on both consoles.

Hi,

It depends on what you're going to do with it (oo-er).

The PS3 is good for all round entertainment - it plays DVDs and Blu-Rays and streams youtube, iplayer, 4od and lovefilm natively while its USB connector handily allows divx and mp3/mp4 playback too. The PS3 processing power's much higher and the graphics capability superior to the xbox360 too BUT most games are developed on the xbox360 and ported to the ps3 so often the xbox360 seems to have better in-game visuals, and has more games available.

The wii's a fun box, but not really up to much. Graphics are poo, and with motion sensing on the xbox360 and ps3 now available, its USP has gone too.

Basically, if you want to blow things up, get an xbox. If you want an audio-visual entertainment centre that has a couple of good games available, get a PS3.

So do you think that the Wii has had it now that the Xbox and PS3 have motion sensing? I still think they'll have a head start on the family market but 'serious' gamers will opt for one of the other two.

Think I might be leaning towards an Xbox just because the range of games is probably better.

Yeah, I can't see how the wii's going to sell now there's kinect and the thingy a ps3 can use. Can you imagine how good FPS and tekken style gaming will be with motion sensing?

Xbox is the choice of the serious gamer. PS3's a more cerebral choice. Or get both if undecided with money to burn :)

I have a top of the range Xbox 360, because I think it's more of a serious gamer's console, some of my friends call it the 'geeks box!' As G-Man says, if blowing things up and shooting people is your thing...it has to be the Xbox!

Hi yes I've heard the Xbox 360 is for serious gamers.
Both of my sons are sadly addicted to it.
