What are your thoughts on these extra strong beers watching a programe about them and one can has 4.5 units in one can yet on the can it say's please be drink aware.
I tend not to take notice of the percentage really. So long as it tastes nice, and it's not too strong, I won't mind. However, I can see, if you drink a lot, this could cause problems. Like anything though, if done in moderation, I'm sure it's not as bad as any other drink available.
I think that the manufacturers know what their market is for these; it's specifically for those who want cheap, fast alcohol intake. It is unfortunately true that many of these products are the preferred brands of those on the streets and are the majority of the empty cans and bottles that you see lying around park benches and in shop doorways in the mornings. It's all very sad. As long as alcohol is a legal drug, then the market will be exploited.
You are so right they aim these drinks at people who get no effect from the lower alcohol drinks
I guess the manufacturer considers that they are covering themselves by putting the standard 'Please be drink aware' logo on their product. I didn't see the programme and can't find any info on these 'extra strong' drinks on the net, but if they are as strong as 4.5 units, then I would like to see the manufacturers displaying that info very clearly on the can or bottle! While I appreciate that it is the responsibilty of the drinker to be aware of how many units they are consuming, I think the manufacturers should also take some resposibility.
