What would I need to look for to get the best picture and does it need to be hd ready or have hd ? Where are the best deals ?

They are more expensive but they are worth it Panasonic is the only choice!

They use quality components in their tvs whereas JVC and other use rubbish in theirs so Panasonic on average last much longer and have a better picture.

As my old gran used to say - pay cheap - pay twice!!!

Curry's have discounted their TV's by 30% and I have been impressed with Amazon prices (and I never thought I'd say that!). I would imagine that there are a number of deals to be had after Christmas. TV technology is moving on at apace. The next big thing is 3D TV and this will mean many companies will offer sales to clear their stock to make room for the new technology. For the more sedate amongst us, HD ready or Full HD is the way forward. If you can get a TV with Freeview HD already included so much the better as you will be able to watch HD TV without having to subscribe to expensive digital companies (Sky HD +). A number of HD TV's are offering standard Freeview but get Freeview HD. You'll be able to watch a number of free to air HD channels and the difference is impressive. Hope this helps?!

Comet's website is very useful as it answers customer questions and has customer reviews. You don't have to buy your tv from there, just use it to narrow down what you want. As Parchester says Amazon's prices are very good. Curry's have good deals. Having bought one myself very recently, I would suggest check out what's out there online, use the retailers websites to narrow down what you want, go into a couple of the main retailers to physically look at your shortlist and choose, then buy from whoever is giving the best deal on the model you've chosen.

i would advise hd as more companys seem to be incorporating it in to their services, but if you have no hd channels it is of very little use. i loved amazon when i bought my grans tv. however i used tesco for mine and that was just as good. sony bravias are great!
