I've tried selling books on ebay with mixed success, so think I might give Amazon a try. A good idea, or do you need to be in the bookselling business to make this a worthwhile venture?
I haven't sold on Amazon but have bought a few second hand books through them. I think you need to price very low (I paid 1p or something) then make your 'profit' on postage and packing. Unless the books are rare or specialist, or you have a very large number, I wonder if it's worth doing. Maybe it's time for a charity shop donation?
i buy quite a lot of books from amazon i have to say. im not sure if its profitable, i tend to buy for 1p so depending on how much of the delivery goes to the seller its possibly profitable! :)
What kinds of books are they? If text books then you might be able to sell them to a University bookshop or direct to students. If not then a car boot might be better followed by a trip to the charity shop with any you are not able to sell.
Not sure. I buy loads of books on Amazon but never second-hand as the Amazon prices are usually so good themselves, plus free posting, so quite unbeatable for me.
what about ebay? Maybe someone is looking for just the books you have.
I think it depends on the type of books you are selling. General paperbacks are probably not worth it but if you have a book of interest then you may have better luck. I sold Madonna's 'Sex' book on Amazon a few years ago and got a really good price for it. Ebay wouldn't let me list it due to the title!! I have also sold a couple of Mary Englebreit books for a good price too on there. I mentioned a site I came across a couple of nights ago under the tips section called bookmooch which I really liked the look of and am going to register and get some of my books on there. Basically you list your books and you get points for those you give away to other members and then in return you get to choose a book you would like. You have to pay the postage to send the book, however you do not have to pay any costs when one is sent to you. I really liked the idea and it is worldwide so there could be some interesting books on there that might not be as easily accessible to us in this country. You don't make any money but I think it is very hard to sell them and this way at least you get a book for free and can recycle some of your old ones.

Yes, that is my impression. I give plenty to charity shops (their book shelves are heaving in my as it seems many besides me do this too) but there are enough that I think I might give it a go, and see what the returns are... if I save used jiffy bags, and only go to the post office once a week, it might be a nice way of recouping some of my book buying costs.
That sounds like a good plan then. Good luck!
