Does anyone know of a cheaper way than royal mail to post parcels abroad?

by , 1 year agoOpen Question

I regularly send out packages to a friend in Israel, and it often costs £15 to £20. I guess I could send overland, but that takes so long, and I don't trust that it would get there. Any suggestions, or should I just bite the bullet?

Ouch, £15-£20 a time?? That's a lot. Of course, there are all these haulers, and special companies like DHL and parcelforce, but I'm presuming they will be just as expensive, if not more. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help than that.

i think its a case of biting the bullet, the royal mail are the best sadly. have you checked that breaking the package up into smaller ones wont save you cash? :)

Try ParcelToGo - I use them regularly and have found them to be cheap and reliable. My husband found another very cheap parcel carrier the other day and I will post the name when he is back later this afternoon.

Not sure whether they do Israel, but try also Parcelsplease.co.uk - they recently shipped a parcel weighing 30Kg to Southern France for £10 plus VAT. Excellent service too - easy to track online and delivered as promised within 3 days.

That's really useful to know about that site Sidesalad as I do sell a few things on Ebay and sometimes get interest from foreign buyers that ask for postage costs so will definitely put this in my diary. Although the buyer was willing to pay the postage costs I once sent something to Germany that weighed far less than 30KG and it cost £40.

If you send parcels regulary go and talk to a local courier company, maybe able to get a deal. Or DHL run from WHSmiths.

There's a lot of overseas couriers on the web, it's probably a case of trawling through, filling in the details on each and seeing what prices you get from each. I seem to end up using a different one every time so can't recommend one in particular, but do check the insurance section to see what they will do if anything does go wrong (non-delivery or damage). I believe there are listings on ebay for couriers too, might be worth having a look.
