I have masses of holiday etc.photographs to print off my camera. Is it cheaper to use my own printer or take them to perhaps ASDA.

by , 1 year agoOpen Question

I do enjoy the editing I do but not the paper I sometimes waste and my printer seems to have an aversion to cheap inks, so it does become costly.
After drastic deleting I still have about 100 photos to print.

I think it is cheaper to go to somewhere like Boots who usually offer a very good service. I think when you weigh up the cost of the photo paper and all the ink that you will use for 100 photos it will probably be a lot cheaper to get them processed elsewhere. You can edit the photos online and download them onto a disc and then take them into the shop to do. Boots do offer a limited editing service in store though.

I have found boots are not cheap

by smartcar, 1 year ago

ASDA are offering 40 free prints, so I would think they would be cheaper when you take into account ink and paper costs. There are others that offer free prints to new customer, so you could join a few, get the free prints and pay postage for all your prints

I have looked for this not found it yet

by smartcar, 1 year ago

Advertised in store smartcar

by Noddy1, 1 year ago

the ASDA offer was on the website

by Sporty, 1 year ago

There are quite a few sites that offer printing and many of them have introductory offers of 40 prints when you sign up and create an account. You usually have to pay postage but this is about £1.50 so is pretty cheap. Try Snapfish, Pixum, Jessops, Asda and use Google to find others.

by MarkX, 1 year ago

ASDA have a cheaper rate for printing in bulk if you have 100+ photos to print its 5p per print in store with next day pick up. Also check out Jessops.

by Noddy1, 1 year ago

that's good will look at that

by smartcar, 1 year ago

I think that it is almost certainly cheaper to get them printed by either an online company or at Asda or Boots. Check for special offers - there are usually some going during the holiday season. Home printing is expensive especially if you use the correct branded cartridges to get the best colour quality (worth doing for photos) and proper photographic paper... and I usually waste a couple of sheets setting up the printer properly (because I forget the settings when I haven't printed photos for a while!)

i have also found this by the time i am set up papper is in the bin

by smartcar, 1 year ago

Smartcar - glad I'm not the only one.

by Sidesalad, 1 year ago

Why print them? I save them on a disc so that I can still show them to friends and family. I also got one of those photoframe things that you put a chip in and it shows your photos.
Much easier on storage, and cheaper.

by ladyjune, 1 year ago

I need to print out most of these photos because I have been creating a travel scrapbook and judging by the number I have to print, I have some catching up to do.

by magzi, 1 year ago

I like to do this with my holiday photos and use windows movie maker or similar to put them on a disc with captions and background music. Much better this way as you can watch them on your tv through the dvd player.

by frenchwoodgirl, 1 year ago

As previous answers have suggested, try boots, thats where i get mine printed, i usually check out the points kiosk too as sometimes you get extra points for printing photos which means you will get some points and can then use the points to buy some of the photos.

by NTB, 1 year ago

Thanks for that - forgotten all about my Advantage Card, I suppose I would get points for this spend.

by magzi, 1 year ago

Yes you would - if you are spending a certain amount you might get extra points? If you go in update your details - they always send me double points vouchers in the post.

by NTB, 1 year ago

that's a good point i never though about points

by smartcar, 1 year ago

i tend to get them done in bulk like 200 odd a time although havent done any recently but you can get double points with vouchers plus points from boots kiosk.

by NTB, 1 year ago

Boots wold be a cheaper option as suggest by members below. However, it's great to edit your own pictures on iphoto, etc..

If you are using a laser printer with glossed paper, I would suggest using boots, but if your an using ink jet printer with the same paper, then go ahead.. - but pound for pound I am unsure which would work out financially better.

by Member-4345, 1 year ago

boots are not the cheapest arround

by smartcar, 1 year ago

Oh really..:), I have always found them cheap compared to others in my area.

Where do you recommend other cheap printing?

by Member-4345, 1 year ago

Boots is 10p per 6 x 4 photo as is Asda, however if you sign up online with Asda they are offering the first 40 prints free. Or even better Lidl are offering 50 prints free online.

by frenchwoodgirl, 1 year ago

thanks french.. Never actually seen ASDA advertise photos.. Will check it out.
One thing though.., ASDA is really not local to us..but thank the internet!! :)

by Member-4345, 1 year ago

My daughter swears by Sainsbury's print service.

by fruitcake, 1 year ago

this could be a stupid answer so if it is my apoligies but why dont you edit them your self, save them on a memory card and get them printed off in one of the machenes/boots. i tend to use a local shop which i like. it could be worth checking to see if there are any smaller shops that do a good service?

by katkity, 1 year ago

Perfect.

by pmscot93, 1 year ago

I save the majority on a disk to it's just sometimes you need to print some off

by smartcar, 1 year ago

Nothing stupid about your suggestion, sounds perfect for me, then I'll check out the photo services - Boots and asda seem to be popular. So many really good answers to my question - Thanks!

by magzi, 1 year ago

oh good, was very concerned that that was a daft idea! :)

by katkity, 1 year ago

There are so many companies which offer free prints at the moment. The best one is by Aldi, where they give you 100 free photos, followed by Asda, pixum, trucolour, and many more. All you have to do is pay for the P+P. People have mentioned some of these below, but I do really think you should consider them. I've used them and have found nothing wrong with them. How much is a new set of cartridges for your printer then?? Thankfully my printer ink isn't too bad.

by ryancarte, 1 year ago

i use cartridge world the ink is top quality and so much cheaper

by smartcar, 1 year ago

I agree with Katkity... if you enjoy editing and may be you can retouch too then you will have a great picture and then a cheaper way to reproduce if you use the suggestions below. Sounds like a plan!

http://www.lovemoney.com have a comparison of prices for 6x4? photo prints as follows:
Snapfish 9p
Photobox.co.uk 10p(8p each for 150 photos)
Kodak Gallery.co.uk 15p(9p each for 150 photos)
Bonusprint.co.uk 10p(7p each for 150 photos)
Asda.com 15p (5p each for 150 photos)
Boots.com 20p (6p each for 150 photos)
Tescophoto.com 15p (5p each for 150 photos)

You therefore need to compared this to the cost of print paper (at about £15 for 100 A4 sheets = about 300 photos) plus cost of print cartridges.

by donk, 1 year ago

When you sign up to Photobox you get 40 free 6x4 prints. So if you just want a few then that'd be worth it - plus then you could use the 10p per print or 8p each for 150 as donk suggests, if needed.

by ryancarte, 1 year ago

If you enjoy printing then if you get your inks refilled instead of originals then you can do them reasonable, but also if you like to have photo's done profesional then there are a lot of deals i got 20 free prints last week from photo box all i had to pay was £1.49 for the postage.

by smartcar, 1 year ago

Have you decided what you're going to do with your photos now?? Will you be taking them into store? Or are you tempted by the online deals?? I did go to boots to do them in store, but they really aren't worth it, so stay away from there!

by ryancarte, 1 year ago

Yes! I think I like the idea katkity gave - it ticks all the boxes for me. I will read the instore/online options suggested and see the most favourable, the photobox sounds interesting.

by magzi, 1 year ago

Magzi I have also just noticed on the Groupon email received today that you can get a £30 photo book through photobox for just £8 which is really good value. My sister has used photobox loads of times for albums and they are fantastic. If you are not registered with Groupon it is very easy to do but if interested you would have to to it today to take advantage of the offer with photobox.

by frenchwoodgirl, 1 year ago

You can use the following sites to print photos for free at home. By signing up to these three photo galleries you can get yourself 105 free digital photo prints:
- PhotoboxPixum give you 50 free prints - look out for special offers and discounts on personalised gifts

by smartcar, 1 year ago

do you need them printed, can you not sort them digitally? Any you want to display could be put onto a digital photoframe, meaning you have a backup of photos and a way of showing them to friends.

by cffalco, 1 year ago

Thanks! cffalco but I want to print them for my travel scrapbook. One of the advantages of printing at home is that I can choose a mixture of sizes to suit my scrapbook page.
