I usually chose a package rather than buying individual elements, this is probably more expensive but is it worth it, does it give you peace of mind?
I go with package holiday deals too. Which company has collapsed?? Always make sure that the holliday is ATOL protected. When I went with Thompson holidays I asked them what it all meant and they said it will cover you for your holiday if there is a problem with it that wasn't your fault. So with ATOL protection, if the holiday company goes bust you'll still be going or get a refund etc. On top of this, ATOL protection covers you for the ash cloud, helpful to know, just in case!!
Only if you are going to that place called JEOPARDY that's where all the jobs are as well. Cant find it in the world atlas though. LOL
Everyone needs to do their research before booking. On the postive side at least the 'vast majority' of people who had booked future trips with the firm will receive refunds under the Atol protection scheme, according to the Civil Aviation Authority. Sometimes there is really light underneath the tunnel.
They wont be compensated for parking and other such expenses which all add up. They all lose something however small.
True. But how it is they can get started and fail so quickly. Who has ever heard of them? Well obviously a few. Was it anything to do the Kiss FM?
I have previously flown with Kiss but they were one of the smaller known carriers that offered competitive prices.
On the question of bankruptcies just to let you know in advance that the clothing giant American Apparel could face bankruptcy soon unless it can re-negotiate its own debts. Phew!
The recession may be here to stay for some time unfortunately!
Reeeeeeeally. I love them. Expensive though. Prob why they are in trouble - cheaper competition all around. Have you got shares in them?
It is important to remember that a lot of people are covered under the schemes mentioned below. Booking your own holiday separately is different though as you are not necessarily covered, airlines going under are the biggest risk here and new flights could be considerably more than the cost of the package.
Probably not. I always book my holidays independently but always check that they are ABTA/ATOL bonded and always use my credit card, and whilst I begrudge the credit card fee applied by all holiday providers it does give me the peace of mind that if anything were to happen I would get my money refunded.
That is excellent advice that I follow too. Not that I go on holiday very often.
No - I suppose not. As others have said book using your credit card and look for ABTA bonding - then cross your fingers. The alternative is either to stay in the UK or to do an independant trip using the budget airlines, hiring a car and finding your own hotel or appartment to rent. There are lots of 'ifs' and 'buts' here though - and I know that option doesn't suit everyone - but you can get yourself a good deal and do something a bit different from the standard package.
im sure technically no, however i think the triangle of holiday safety (atol/abta, credit card and good insurance) guarentees you a safe, easily refunded holiday at the least!
The last company to go belly up, a few weeks ago, where a number of passengers were stranded abroad and were being charged again by their accommodation, were selling their holidays at a loss. I understand the need to be competitive but selling products at a loss just doesn't make any sense and increases the risk to travellers!! Trouble is we are all looking for a bargain but these appear to be at a greater cost in the longer term.
Was just going to say, as soon as people see massive discounts, they're bound to just go and risk it. Some families won't care. My friends got stuck in the mess with the ash cloud, but luckily they had friends you lived in france and so just stayed with them for a few days. They're still fighting for the money back for the extra tickets they had to buy though to get home.
Kiss is the 13th UK travel firm to have gone bust this year. Safest bet is to stay at home! :)
mine is , staying at home. just got to stay away from auctions.
I think that if you stay with the more well known companies and make sure you have adequate insurance, you should be safe. They do tend to charge more but you do get what you pay for.
