We collect the Tesco clubcard points as it makes sense to be rewarded for the weekly essential shop. We then save up the vouchers and use them at Christmas or for a special ocassion to make the cost more manageable - one year our Christmas shop was only £20 as we'd accumulated so many vouchers!

My friend and her partner have the M&S credit card and use it to pay for all purchases (and are very strict at paying the full balance each month!). They then get M&S vouchers (topical for today's prize!) that they use to buy most of their food - that's a lot of "Dine for 2 for £10"!

I collect Boots points and have for years. I normally end up using my points to get holiday essentials like sun tan lotion which can be really expensive but if you've got points and buy when they also have buy one get one free deals, you feel like a real winner!

yep i find Boots mount up and if you use the machines in store you can always add extra. Great for treats or Christmas,3 for 2!

As a family, we also collect Airmiles through purchases at Shell for fuel, and now you can collect them with iTunes, eBay, play.com, John Lewis, Debenhams, Currys, Waterstones and many more online stores. We recently cashed in on quite a few years of leaving them untouched and my fiance and I got return flights to Italy and I used them for a return flight to London (from Glasgow) - we still have a lot of airmiles left.

I have the boots card as well as sainsburys and tesco. The nectar card is pretty good as you can get quite a few decent offers on the website (eg yahoo toolbar and thomson reviews). When the statements come out there are usually some decent money off coupons of free points offers etc so it is worth having all of them.

I have thought for a while that it is all too easy to collect different points on a number of different cards. In that scenario I think you end up with small number of points on multiple cards which doesn't amount to the same saving.

I think of TESCO and Sainsbury points as very different (you gain points no matter which credit card you use) and they are easy to redeem. At Sains I just get them taken off the shopping at the til. I think that going into Nectar you can get better value for your points.

When it comes to other loyalty points I think it is worth looking hard at the places you can redeem the points and deciding if they are the shops you use. I try to have just two main credit cards that give me points.

At the moment though I am reviewing my cards and thinking of having a TESCO credit card. That way you get 8x the value one point for every £4 spent and also you collect the points as you would on the shop at the same time. But Sains also have a Nectar card so I am going to compare them.

I am a tart when it comes to other stores like Debenhams Russel and Bromley if they are giving discount at the time I am buying I take out a card. Why not!

I love them. I know it's a marketing exercise for the companies who issue them but to be honest I don't mind Tesco knowing how often I buy loo roll if it's going to get me some freebies.
Tesco Clubcard - convert vouchers to Airmiles (been to Croatia and Italy on them) and now I see I can convert them to BA Airmiles now!
Nectar card - points saved via Sainsburys, EDF energy and various online shopping with Nectar partners. Bought various household items: cordless screwdriver, kettle and most recently spent points at Homebase to get a £189 superpowered jet washer for only £56 spend.
Boots - usually save them up for buying expensive face creams (feel less guilty that way)
I also collect Airmiles directly through online shopping via the Airmiles website (John Lewis, iTunes and eBay mainly.
As for the worth of them, it depends what you personally most value - for me at the moment it's free flights. It feels great to book to go someplace new and not have to pay anything!

I have a John Lewis credit card which I use for everything. I do my weekly shop at Waitrose so I get double points on that. I use these to buy Christmas presents. I also have a Tesco Clubcard but I don't shop in Tesco much. It's still useful to get a few pounds off when I do. I have had a Nectar card for years and accumulated loads of points on there but never really knew what to do with them until I went in for a meal at Ask who now do Nectar. We managed to get 5 meals and drinks completely paid for with points so I was very chuffed.

W use the Tesco clubcard it costs nothing but gives a bit back each month.

I favour the Tesco clubcard as it's my nearest supermarket and makes sense. I have found that the points are quite addictive and have noticed over the past year that I'm shopping at Tesco for everything to watch the points mount up! I have the tesco Clubcard Credit Card also which accelerates their numbers. And with all the different departments and Tesco Direct, there's very little you can't buy there. I've saved £200 of clubcard points already this year and can change those in for 4 x the amount in holiday vouchers - £800 off next year's hols!!

I have always wondered about the holiday vouchers aspect of the club card points and do you actually save any money through the partner holiday companies? Being the cynic that I am I always believe that the partner companies already charge way over the odds for their holidays and am not sure whether you really do make any real monetary savings.

by frenchwoodgirl, 1 year ago

I have been advised that it's best to NOT call the number issued to you to book the holiday as those prices will be inflated. If I call the regular line (I'll be booking with Virgin) and get the holiday priced up and THEN let them know I have the holiday vouchers, I am reliably informed that they cannot then reprice the holiday. Won't be ready to book yet, but will let you all know how I get on.

I have Boots, Tesco, Nectar, Morrisons petrol card. Morrisons is quite good, get a £5 voucher quite often to spend in store. Love the Boots card, especially at xmas when they give extra points, buy xmas pressies and have lots of points for me in January!!

by ladyjune, 1 year ago

I have loyalty cards for both Tesco and Sainsbury's but prefer to use my vouchers or points to get cash off my purchases rather than use the associated offers with partner companies as I feel you do not get a fair exchange for using your points in this way. I always use my Tesco vouchers to take money of my bill and with my Nectar points at Sainsbury's I save them up and put them towards a reduction in my Christmas food shopping. I feel that is where the real benefits are.

I don't use any, myself. I don't tend to shop anywhere that offers them. I use Boots maybe once or twice a year, and for that small amount it never seems worth it. I know it 'all adds up', but it would take years to add up, at that rate!

When I first started driving I did get a Shell card. For a week or two, it worked, and then suddenly decided I was no longer registered again and stopped working. That, again, made me decide it wasn't worth it.

by cpj1987, 1 year ago

i dont but i know friends and family's postcodes so i can give them my points as i dont tend to shop often enough in shops that offer loyalty points. it seems to be a great idea, for example in game it doesnt take long to build up £5 by just the occasional game!

by katkity, 1 year ago

I don't usually use them but I have been considering getting a Boots card. I used to collect Morrison's points when buying petrol but then I realised that I could actually get petrol cheaper elsewhere and that I was wasting money on the petrol and wasting petrol on getting to the Morrison's petrol station.

I think with loyalty cards you need to make sure that whatever you buy you get it from the best value retailer and if you happen to get points then that's a bonus (rather than shopping somewhere just to get points where you could get items cheaper elsewhere).

I only have a Tesco clubcard, but as well as getting points for any shopping at Tesco I also get points added on it from Eon electric (though I'd rather have cheaper electric without the gimmicks). Every so often Tesco send some vouchers for a few ££'s which is always nice. I think you can use them for days out and all sorts of other things too.

by wendiew, 1 year ago

Tesco and Boots cards definitely. I use my Tesco vouchers as i go, but save the Boots points up and use them to splash out on something once/twice a year. I get loads of money off vouchers from Boots as well...£5 off certain brands of make up are my fave ones to get.

Tesco clubcard, the deals online are great. I also get nectar point but have never used them.

by cffalco, 1 year ago

I do a few of them. Tescos is great if you want activity things. I use mine for days out for the kids in the summer holidays and for birthdays, it saves me a fortune and it was a purchased with food I would have had to buy anyway. The nectar card isnt bad either. I dont tend to use it as much, though the deals you can get have now got alot better, so maybe worth a look. Boots is ok. You can use your points towards buying a product. The only problem with it is you have to buy the product in full with your points, you cant use points as part payment. Overall I prefer tescos, but thats just my personal opinion.

Tesco points are great. We take the extended family to Chessington every year, when we are in the area and it is all free. We have also booked three nights in a top class hotel, costing £360 for £90 worth of clubcard points. Boots points annoy me in that you can't use your points to part pay for your shopping and as my total is always more than my points level, I never use them. I could split my shop up and pay this way but this is too much hassle.

We use Sainsburys loyalty points system for food shopping and we find it for value, sometimes great and other times, "a waste of points".
We have accumulated so far around 90,000, but that's not because of saving, that because of the amount of money we have been spending in their store.

We also like using our nectar card for BP and usually use it for amazon and Homebsae.

- I wish Lidl offered the same thing

by Member-4345, 1 year ago

I have a tesco, sainsburys and boots card. I like the tesco ones as can be used for up to 4 times the value to get holidays, tickets etc. I dont shop that frequently at sainsbury but mount the points up and will put towards an xmas food shop.

by NTB, 1 year ago

I think they are all quite good. It all comes down to whether you do all your weekly shopping in one store, because it's all about how much you spend really.
I have a club card at Tesco and a Nectar card which I use at Sainsbury's, both can be used for Petrol as well, and I can use my nectar online to buy from Amazon, Play and loads of other stores which is great. But the reality is I've had both cards for about 5 years and still only earned 2000 points at Nectar and i've got plenty of vouchers through the post from Tesco. You get a lot more offers seasonally from tesco to get bonus points than with nectar and tesco is generally better value anyway, so I would say Tesco is better, but as I do most of my shopping at Asda anyway, I think it's just the mantra of every penny counts that means i still bother with the loyalty cards!
