I've often heard of websites you can sell photos too, anyone done this? how good do the photos need to be, are we talking professional quality using a Digital SLR or has anyone sold amature shots?
There are websites where you can sell your pics and they don't need to be professional, they can be amateur. There have been two questions on this same topic already where you can find useful info.
It would be good if you could search through the forum before posting a new question, as questions are being repeated too often lately.
The websites that I would advise you to start looking into are:
I haven't cffalco but a very good friend at work has. He is (I think an excellent amateur photographer) and you should check out his web site that he has just launched philwebbphotography.co.uk. This question has been raised a few times and I asked him last week a bit more about how he goes about selling his photographs. Most of the photo libraries offer a free service to upload your photographs onto their website and will then take a commission when a photograph is sold. You can sell the total rights to the photograph so that the purchaser can basically do whatever they want with it but you can put restrictions on (for example if you didn't want it to be used to advertise cigarettes etc). Once you have sold the rights you cannot use it again. He specializes in land scape photography and recently sold one for £375 but he did say that the best sellers were photographs of people. I think it is really worth considering if you have a flair for something like this. He does have a fancy camera but I still think you can get some pretty good pictures with a basic digital camera if you know how to use it correctly. I did pick his brain quite a bit as my sister is quite into photography and has done a couple of weddings in the past and I thought it may be something she could develop in the future.
thank you very much, i knew it had been mentioned as an answer to some stuff and wanted to know more. I may just give it ago.
should be easy if you're good
If you're a good photographer then you should consider setting up a site yourself.
we had this question last week i am sure
I haven't sold them to websites, but I have sold to greeting card manufacturers before and made some extra money that way. Have you thought about or tried that?
one of my friends managed to get a freelance job out of her deviantart i think its called website, but i think in the end she wasnt quite what they were looking for. she had a big expensive digital slr.
i have a friend who used deviant art and had a similar result be careful once the artwork is on thier page they can do what they want with it unless you copywrite it and request others ask permission before using your art
Most of the big known sites are listed by palandraca.
However, I would start forming an album and create categories within that album.
Add your shots with a water mark print across it, and send to to various digital companies that rely on images. I would even go as far as to send to Broadcasting companies - as they also use pictures as well..
Infact why not send it to picture frame companies. They may like your shots and want to use is as a display wall picture?... Just a thought..
