I noticed in NatWest bank yesterday that they have a current account for students offering a rail card with a 1/3 off travel for 5 years. Hope that is of use to someone.
I'm not but for anyone that this question may be of interest to, I noticed in this weeks MSE newsletter that there are some really good options for graduates even if it is over 3 years since you finished. Lloyds came out top offering an interest free £2000 overdraft in your first year after graduation, £1500 in your second and £1000 in your third year.
my son has santandare he says it is great
Most banks offer good incentives for students on the basis that people rarely move banks and in theory when they graduate they should be good earners and more importantly good borrowers.
Absolutely but don't you feel that banks don't actually reward its loyal customers sufficiently. What has Abbey/Santander done for me in 20 years. I have also had accts with others for savings and stuff running in tandem but now unlike my Dad's day there is no point trying to get to know your manager. It is all so anonymous. Manager's seem to get younger and younger have less authority and move all the time and anyway online banking means you hardly need to go. Rant over but you are right they want our business but perhaps they need to follow through and complete the cycle!
Students need to look at the different accounts with the different incentives. For me a railcard was well worth it, but if you don't plan to travel by train that much then a different incentive would be better. Just for info a railcard for students is £26 a year.
Thanks I didn't know how much it was. This was only one of a number incentives with the that account but you are right not everyone wants that
ive been noticing these adverts as well! the rail card is a good incentive though.
NatWest offered this incentive when I started Uni 13 years ago. While I agree it's a great incentive, surely they need to offer some more up to date incentives as well. Discounts on festival tickets, Itunes vouchers or something along those lines.
Please don't take it that that's all they provide. That was just the one I mentioned because I saw the poster but they do offer a range of benefits. I guess that it just enduringly appropriate.
Just had a look at the NatWest website. They do offer £100 off an ASUS laptop and there's a discount card that get's you discounts off a variety of products. Don't get me wrong, it was a good suggestion for anyone looking, I was just suprised as the lack of progress they've made developing this product as a company over the last 13 years.
