I have a valuation for insurance purposes but it was done quite a few years ago and I understand that is not the same as the actual value anyway.
Hi not really sure on this one! You definatly need the ring off your finger in order to be valued! Have you tried using soap to loosen the ring, or putting your hand in cold water for a period of time to shrivel your finger!
quite worried you can't get the ring off your finger. try the below tips
if doesn't work, i got this info from ehow. may involve some discomfort, but next step is to get it cut off!
1.Step 1
Lather soap all over your finger. Put your finger under warm water. Pull on it until it slips loose.
2.Step 2
Envelop your finger from the ring up as tight as you can with clingy plastic food wrap. Grease up the ring and your swollen finger below the clingy wrap. Wait a couple of minutes ,then pull the ring and the clingy wrap at the same time.
3.Step 3
Spray window cleaner on the ring. This works better than lotion because it doesn't damage the precious stones and leaves the ring shiny when you finally get the ring off your swollen finger.
4.Step 4
Wrap tape around your finger just past the ring. Leave the tape on for 30 minutes. Ice your hand while holding it above your heart for another 15 minutes. Take off the tape and spray window cleaner on your finger. Twist the ring around your finger while pulling it off.
5.Step 5
Take a piece of thick string and wrap it very tightly down to the ring starting from the top of your finger. Put the end of the string under the ring then pull up slowly working up over the top of the string.

Warm water makes your finger swell up, much better with cold water.

info from ehow,
need to look at all instructions,
use ice later,
Cold water should help to get it off - do you have any jeweller friends that could do it for you whilst it is on your finger? x
Hi,you really need to try to get the ring off your finger. Try running you hand under a cold water tap for a while, and it has to be cold not warm,as warm water will make your finger expand not shrink, and then dry your finger, pour cooking oil over it and all around the ring, then using a teatowel to get grip twist and pull gently a little bit at a time. If it doesn't come off this way you might need to get it cut off, possibly devaluing the ring any way.
BUTTER! If you're selling it for gold value tho, I don't think it would matter if you had it cut off - they only melt the gold anyway.
Yeah, you need to take it off. The best way to get a ring off a finger is with glass cleaner. Some jewelery stores keep some just for this purpose.
You can go directly to a jewelery store to see if they can help you, if you try doing it at home and it doesn't work. I am sure it wouldn't be a first for them!
Usually, for insurance purposes, unless it's over quite a high amount, you can simply put down what you genuinely feel is the correct value. If you want specifics, if you know the details of the ring, phone up a gold dealer and he could give a fairly accurate valuation
I would consider using cold water first, so as not to swell your hands. And then use a kind of lubricant (baby oil). Your ring should definitely remove.
Your ring could be guesstimated by a jeweler based on it thickness and carat(and with any other materials associated).
Use some butter to try to get it off. dont force it as your fingers will swell
Get your hand nice and cold that way it should come off with a little lubricant like washing up liquid, then you can get a proper valuation.
